Juventus have confirmed that midfielder Blaise Matuidi has tested positive for coronavirus.

The France midfielder becomes the second Juventus player to test positive for Covid-19 after Daniele Rugani.

"Blaise Matuidi has undergone medical tests that have revealed his positivity to the Coronavirus-COVID-19," a statement on Juventus' website read.

"The player, as of Wednesday 11 March, has been in voluntary home isolation. He will continue to be monitored and will follow the same regime. He is well and is asymptomatic."

Juventus ordered their staff and players into self-isolation last week after Rugani was found to have coronavirus.

A statement on the club's website said: "Following yesterday's news, relating to the positivity to Coronavirus-COVID 19 of the player Daniele Rugani, it is specified that 121 people, including players, staff members, managers, escorts and Juventus employees are observing a period of voluntary home isolation, in compliance with the requirements of the health authorities based on the provisions currently in force.”

Matuidi has also contracted the virus, but confirmation that he is well and no longer showing symptoms is great news.

The world has been rocked by the spread of the Covid-19 virus, with football largely affected as well.

Italy's Serie A was suspended earlier in the month until April 3 at the earliest, although it's highly unlikely that the league will resume at that date.

It's not clear when exactly games will resume but UEFA want all domestic club competitions to be completed by June 30.

That could also be an unrealistic target date, and would possibly require games to be played behind closed doors.

UEFA have also pushed Euro 2020 back to 2021 as it plans for a congested calendar.
