Edgar Davids is one of the most iconic footballers of all-time.

The goggle-wearing Dutchman was a superstar of the world game throughout the 1990's and early 2000's, establishing himself as one of the best defensive midfielders in the game.

Davids was a key man in Ajax's Champions League-winning side of 1995 and 'The Pitbull' also excelled for Juventus after his move to Turin in 1997, where he won three Serie A titles.

After seven successful years at Juve, a year on-loan at Barcelona, a year with Inter Milan and a season-and-a-half in the Premier League with Tottenham, Davids returned to Ajax in January 2007.

He only spent a year-and-a-half in Amsterdam this time around, but that was enough time for the tenacious midfielder to deliver one of football's funniest clips.

During a match against PSV Eindhoven, Davids connected with a sweet volley from around 35 yards out which clattered into the post and then smacked Heurelho Gomes straight on the head.

The Brazilian 'keeper staggered around momentarily before falling to the ground in a daze.

Davids has a foot like a traction engine!

After sitting on the turf seeing stars and probably feeling groggy as hell, Gomes had to get up and watch Ajax run away with a 5-1 victory, with Wesley Sneijder even scoring from the resulting corner.

A bad day at the office, to say the least. However, Gomes and PSV would get their revenge over Ajax on the final day of the 2006/07 season.

With the two sides going into the final game of the season level on points at the top of the Eredivisie table, PSV had it all to do due to their inferior goal difference.

So what did they do? They smashed Vitesse Arnhem 5-1, while Ajax could only muster a 2-0 victory over Willem II, with PSV winning the title by a single goal.
