John Obi Mikel's contract at Trabzonspor has been terminated by 'mutual consent' due to the midfielder's fears over the coronavirus pandemic.
The news comes just days after the Nigerian midfielder called out the Turkish FA in a powerful statement, with the Super Lig still currently operating behind-closed-doors.
Mikel stated that he did not feel comfortable continuing to play during the pandemic and he's given up the remainder of his wages on his contract.
The Nigerian has been a key man behind Trabzonspor's remarkable 2019/20 season, with the club currently top of the Turkish top-flight.

Mikel called out the Turkish FA's decision to continue the domestic season shortly before Trabzonspor's game against Istanbul Basaksehir on Sunday - a match in which the Nigerian did not play.
The 32-year-old wrote: "There is more to life than football. I do not feel comfortable and don't want to play football in this situation. Everyone should be home with their families and loved ones at this critical time. Season should be cancelled as the world is facing such turbulent times."
Several high-profile names supported the statement from the Mikel.
Galatasaray striker Radamel Falcao wrote: "You are right john. The life is more important than football."
Mikel's former Chelsea teammate Didier Drogba replied: "Words of wisdom."
The Turkish government has announced that all top-flight football fixtures in the country will continue without supporters until the end of April, despite other domestic seasons across Europe coming to a halt.
It seems only a matter of time until Turkey enforces a postponement, for the health and safety of their players during unprecedented times.
