The world of sport is currently living in a very uncertain period, whether it be football, Formula One or boxing, but it seems like the latter still wants to organise events for the near future.

As we all know, the majority of football leagues are all postponed until further notice, the F1 season is losing its first four races for now, and other sporting events have also been cancelled, including the Grand National next month.

However, it seems like boxing officials want to carry on as normal as possible, if and when possible, and according to reports, they are currently organising a huge trilogy fight for later this year.

No, we aren't talking about Deontay Wilder vs Tyson Fury 3, we are talking about Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez vs Gennady Golovkin 3.

Canelo was scheduled to fight in May against Brit Billy Joe Saunders, but that fight has now been postponed for the time being due to the coronavirus epidemic, and plans are now starting to take place to organise a huge trilogy fight later this year.

According to CBS Sports, sources told The Athletic's Lance Pugmire on Tuesday that Canelo and Golovkin will go at it once more if all is well in terms of the coronavirus.

Golden Boy Promotions, who are the promoters of Canelo, are hoping to stage the bout on September 12 during Mexican Independence Day weekend inside the AT&T Stadium outside of Dallas.

However, the date, site and weight class have not been finalised as of writing this article, and they are just the desired options.

As mentioned, this will be the third time these two boxing giants lock horns, with the first fight ending in a draw, and the second going the way of the Mexican.

Back in 2017, the two battled to a draw inside the T-Mobile Arena, but the following year, Canelo got the job done on points inside the very same venue.

Since their rematch, Canelo has fought three times, picking up three wins, whilst Golovkin has fought twice, winning on both occasions.

Of course, no one can be sure what's going to happen in terms of sporting events over the next few months, but it seems like a trilogy fight between the middleweights is wanted!
