Blaise Matuidi became the second Juventus player to test positive for coronavirus on Tuesday.
The France midfielder was reported to be “asymptomatic and fine” by his club in a statement that came a week after centre-back Daniele Rugani also tested positive for Covid-19.
Juventus ordered their players and staff into self-isolation last week and it’s been reported by the Daily Mail that special care is being given to manager Maurizio Sarri.
The Italian, 60, has been put under a special protection regime by the Old Lady in an attempt to avoid any coronavirus-related health issues.
Despite testing negative for the virus, being a regular smoker puts Sarri under increased risk.
The former Chelsea head coach is known to smoke up to 60 cigarettes a day.
There’s therefore concern on Juventus’ side as those with lung problems and other long-lasting health issues could face greater difficulty in recovery.
Sarri also suffered from pneumonia at the start of the 2019/20 campaign. He was unable to manage from the touchline and was reportedly left scared about his health.
Sarri is upbeat, though, according to close friend Aurelio Virgili.
Virgili has known the former Napoli boss for more than 20 years and revealed that he's been joking about transfer rumours with Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola.
“I spoke to him three days ago. He's in a positive mood,” Virgili told Tuttosport.
“He misses daily life and being in the training ground - it's in his blood. But, as is the situation for everyone, he's concentrating on the type of work you can do at home.
“He's watching matches, training sessions and is studying player data. He's like a machine. For example, if you asked him how many kilometres Ghimmi [Juan Cuadrado] registered against Inter Milan, he would tell you how many kilometres he ran forward, backwards, left and right.'
“Maurizio watches a lot of football, but other than that he's a man of great culture and reads a lot.
"He's also been joking with Guardiola about the transfer market rumours.”
