Every year, the PFA Premier League Team of the Year consists mainly from players inside the top six.

But who would make the Premier League's best XI from players outside the current top six?

That was a question answered by John Hartson and Joleon Lescott on The Debate.

The two players were limited to picking just two players from each side.

Players that are currently injured, such as Harry Kane and Son Heung-min, were not available for selection.

The pair came up with a team they thought could challenge the Premier League's best sides and you can view their selections below...

GK: Nick Pope

LB: Danny Rose

CB: Gary Cahill

CB: John Egan

RB: Max Aarons

LM: Dwight McNeill

CM: Jack Grealish

CM: Étienne Capoue

RM: Wilfried Zaha

ST: Danny Ings

ST: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

GIVEMESPORT'S JAMES STROUD SAYS:

Hartson and Lescott made some controversial selections there, for sure.

There can be a big debate about the goalkeeper spot.

Nick Pope is a decent shout, while Bernd Leno, Vicente Guaita and Martin Dubravka are also in contention.

But I will go with Dean Henderson, who has been brilliant for a Sheffield United side with the second best defence in the league.

Danny Rose was once one of the best left-backs in the Premier League, but not anymore. Lucas Digne is a much better full-back.

John Egan is a good selection but alongside him I'd pick Burnley's James Tarkowski.

There isn't a clear-cut choice at right-back. But with full fitness and on top form, Hector Bellerin is a class above the rest outside the top six.

Jack Grealish has to get in midfield, while I'd put Abdoulaye Doucouré in the side instead of Étienne Capoue.

Dwight McNeill is a promising left-midfielder but I'd take him out and put Richarlison there instead. Wilfried Zaha has been one of the best Premier League wingers for years and deserves his spot on the right.

Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang has to occupy one of the spots up top. He'd get into almost any side in the world.

Teemu Pukki, Chris Wood and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have all scored over 10 Premier League goals this season, but I'll stick with Danny Ings, whose 15 goals have propelled Southampton away from the relegation zone.
