Will the 2019/20 Premier League season be completed?

It seems that is the priority right now after the league’s statement on Thursday.

Following a video conference call with all 20 clubs, the Premier League revealed they would extend the postponement of football until April 30. However, they also insisted the current campaign would have an indefinite end date as they hope to play out the remaining fixtures.

Of course, that’s all best-case scenario.

What if the coronavirus situation in the UK gets worse and matches can’t be played until July - or even later? Surely the easiest decision then would be to just declare the season null and void.

If that’s the case, there are plenty of questions that need to be answered. Who gets relegated? Do clubs get promoted? What happens with European qualification?

But the situation everyone seems to be talking about is whether Liverpool will be named champions. Jurgen Klopp’s side are 25 points clear and need just two more wins to seal their first ever Premier League title.

Rivals fans would love to see them denied the chance to lift the trophy they so clearly deserve.

However, despite being a Manchester United club legend, Gary Neville, admitted that he’d give Liverpool the title if the season was cancelled. However, he’d constantly be reminding his Sky Sports colleague, Jamie Carragher, that Liverpool didn’t win it properly.

"He’s a little bit touchy on this one over the last few days in our messages," Neville said of Carragher on The Debate.

"I say give Liverpool the league and I keep sending him the little asterisk sign to say 'Liverpool win the league, BUT…'.

"But it would have to be a doomsday scenario for football not to finish the fixtures from this season."

Right now, Liverpool fans probably wouldn’t care if there was an asterisk next to their first ever title win - as long as they see Jordan Henderson lift it.
