In this day and age, the majority of people sitting at home would prefer to turn on Netflix rather than the classics of BBC, ITV or one of Channel 4 and Channel 5.

Netflix is comfortably taking over and it's easy to see why.

Thrilling documentaries added every month, gripping original series' that simply get you hooked from the start, but also, it's home to some of the classic programmes and movies as well.

No matter where you go, or no matter what social media platform you're on, you will always see or hear people talking about Netflix and what they're currently watching or what they recommend you watch. It seriously is taking over.

It would not be a surprise if in years to come, Netflix was quite literally the home of everything. So with that in mind, maybe people need to start thinking about the future and thinking about a life that revolves around the platform.

Whilst we are currently enduring a global pandemic, where the only answer is seemingly self isolation, Netflix is going to become a very popular platform over the next few months, so we thought we would send some suggestions to the company about what sport stars deserves their own documentary.

Netflix already has some brilliant sporting documentaries available, the likes of 'Drive To Survive', 'Sunderland 'Til I Die' and the recent three-parter about NFL player-turned murderer Aaron Hernandez.

But, with the coronavirus keeping us indoors for the foreseeable future, it's time to suggest some other stories that deserve to be put into documentaries, so without further ado, here are our suggestions!

Tiger Woods

Well where do we start with this one?

Tiger Woods is undoubtedly one of the biggest sport stars in the world. He's won all there is to win in golf, and he's dominated the sport for the majority of his professional career.

However, behind that success and away from the golf course there's some dark stories and home truths to be exposed and detailed, which would make his documentary a must-see!

Injury problems sent his career into turmoil, and due to that, incidents and issues with the law and his family ensued.

BUT, having said that, the documentary would have a feel-good ending, with Woods returning to the course and securing his fifth Masters title in 2019.

Talk about an emotional rollercoaster, but boy it would make for a great watch!

Oscar Pistorious

Another story that has more twists and turns than a rollercoaster, but another one that would be a gripping watch from start to finish.

Oscar Pistorious was a dominant Paralympian who burst into the spotlight for his performances at the 2004 Olympics in Athens. That year, he claimed a gold and a bronze, only to then follow it up with three golds at Beijing in 2008.

Four years later in 2012, he won two more golds and a silver at the London Olympics.

However, one year later in 2013, his life turned on its head after the death of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. The South African model was shot four times by Pistorious, who claims he mistook her for an intruder.

Diving into that dark tale, and also the repercussions of what happened that night would make for one nail-biting documentary.

Ben Johnson

Controversy in athletics unfortunately happens quite often, and one major case of that was when Ben Johnson, a Canadian athlete, was disqualified for doping after finishing third in two Olympic races, and also running two consecutive 100 metres under the world record time at the 1987 World Championships in Athletics and the 1988 Summer Olympics respectively.

A gritty and in-depth look into Johnson's career and seemingly incredible journey to the top of athletics could make for a gripping documentary, especially when the truth gets exposed.

What would make it more interesting for viewers would be the fact his story may not be as well known as others in this list.

Certainly one that could make for a cracking Netflix special.

Fabrice Muamba

Now on the face of it, a documentary about Fabrice Muamba may not be *that* interesting to some people, but what happened to him on March 17, 2012 deserves to have a documentary of its own.

After playing for Arsenal and Birmingham City, Muamba ended up at Bolton Wanderers, where he played from 2008 until his retirement in 2012, however, that retirement was very premature, and that's because he nearly died on the pitch.

March 17 was the date as Bolton travelled to White Hart Lane to take on Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup quarter-final. During the game, the midfielder collapsed on the pitch after suffering a cardiac arrest, and it was later revealed that his heart had actually stopped working entirely for 78 minutes.

A documentary about that fateful night and the days/weeks afterwards would truly make for a fascinating watch, and add in interviews from players, staff and doctors who were involved, it could make for a real moving piece.

Dwayne Johnson

Now this documentary may not be as dark or controversial as the others mentioned, but who wouldn't want to watch about Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson's life?!

The man is a global icon and not only did he dominate the world of sports entertainment, he's also dominated Hollywood, and that in itself makes for a great documentary.

But you could delve back into his failed NFL days and why he started wrestling, which then in turn led to him becoming one of the greatest of all time to lace up a pair of boots with WWF/WWE.

Surely The Rock himself and numerous other WWE superstars have great stories to tell about his career, so it may not be as dark and controversial, but it will certainly be a brilliant watch.

From the squared circle to the big screen, Dwayne Johnson is one of the world's greatest success stories, and the documentary would be brilliant.

Ben Stokes

If you want a rollercoaster career, look no further than England cricketer Ben Stokes. He's had such a career, his documentary may need to be made into a two-parter!

Stokes has been on the cricketing scene for some time now, but his documentary could probably start in 2017 and still run for a good two-parter; yes, the last three years have been that dramatic for him.

Incidents away from the cricket pitch, and in particular outside a nightclub, could be documented and examined, but then the picture would end in super stardom fashion as he guides England to the 2019 World Cup and also his heroic performance in the Ashes Test at Leeds.

His story truly is remarkable, and the documentary would be too. Get on it, Netflix! (Maybe it'll help in getting him named a Sir as well)

Steve Smith

Staying with cricket, another controversial, but brilliant character is Steve Smith. Okay, a lot of people will be asking 'brilliant?!', but when it comes to cricket, can you really argue against it?

Again, Smith, just like Stokes, has been around for ages now it seems, but this documentary could also start within the last two years and it would still make for fantastic viewing.

In 2018, Australia toured South Africa, and we all know how it ended. Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft crying their eyes out during a press conference after admitting to ball tampering.

The documentary could delve into that controversial saga with interviews and footage, before then going on to capture his return to the top during the 2019 Ashes series, which ultimately kept the Aussies the urn.

You could also focus on THAT incident with Jofra Archer, which in itself would take up a large portion of time.

Tyson Fury

Where on earth do you start with a man like Tyson Fury?

Yes we know that ITV have already done a documentary about The Gypsy King, but after his monumental success over Deontay Wilder back in February to become the WBC Champion, this is a new doc. that is 100% needed.

But this is Netflix, and this is the time to go deep and raw into Fury's troubles, with interviews with the man himself and his loved ones.

It could make for a really gripping, emotional, but also feel-good documentary, highlighting the highest of highs, but also the lowest of lows.

Maria Sharapova

From beating the mighty Serena Williams in the Wimbledon final at the young age of 17 in 2004, to being banned for failing a drugs test in 2016, to then retiring from tennis in 2020; this documentary on Maria Sharapova would be a must-see for all tennis fans, and all sport fans for that matter.

The Russian burst onto the scene with her remarkable performances at Wimbledon 16 years ago, and after she defeated Williams in straight sets, she was destined for the top.

And yes, success did come her way, she won five Grand Slams in total, but a deeper look into her troubled career in terms of injuries and drug suspensions, could make for a fascinating watch.

Back in 2016, she received a two-year ban for failing a drug test after the Australian Open, and although she did eventually make a return, she was never the same.

Judged by fellow players, criticised by fans, a look into Sharapova's marmite career and lifestyle would be worth watching.

Caster Semenya

The emotional challenges that have faced Caster Semenya during her athletics career would certainly make for a tearjerking documentary.

Due to her dominance in her field and in her gender bracket, questions were genuinely raised about her sex, which would have undoubtedly put A LOT of stress on her whilst still actively trying to compete.

At one stage, the IAAF were genuinely asking Semenya to take sex verification tests just to prove that she was in fact a female.

Interviews with her, members of her team and also loved ones could really make for an emotional documentary, which could have you looking for your nearest set of tissues.

There is so much to delve into with Caster Semenya, and a documentary, which could even be numerous parts, would be great to watch.

Tom Brady

When you hear the name Tom Brady, you immediately think to three things. New England Patriots. Super Bowl. GOAT.

However, some people will be very quick to mention the word 'deflategate', and that would certainly make for a fascinating focal point of any Tom Brady documentary.

Of course, nowadays it's easy to call Tom Brady one of the very best to play the game, but people weren't so sure of that, especially when it came to drafting him back in 2000.

He was the 199th overall pick in the sixth round of 2000 NFL Draft... no, seriously.

Fast forward to 2014, and he was involved in one of the biggest scandals in NFL history, a scandal that would see a large portion of fans lose all respect for him.

Exploring 'deflategate' could be an episode in itself for Brady, but it's certainly something that deserves to be put under the microscope.

Just imagine how good the interviews would be from Indianapolis Colts players and management?!

Chris Benoit

When you talk about a Netflix series or documentary, a lot of people choose to watch the dark and evil ones; what can we say, people are just fascinated by that it seems.

One documentary that would certainly be dark would be one about former WWE superstar Chris Benoit.

In the ring, Benoit was one of the very best, but away from it he had problems, problems that would eventually cost him and his family their lives.

Benoit was involved in a murder-suicide, killing both his wife and child, so a documentary about his story would certainly be gripping, but also tough to watch.

When it came to his profession, Benoit was one of the elites, but sadly, that's not what he will be remembered for.

So there we have it, there are 12 sport stars who we feel deserve to have their own Netflix documentary!

In times like this, where self isolation is advised, people are going to be using their subscriptions more than ever, so it's time for Netflix to give us some hot new content!
