“Commitment is like… you almost have to give your happiness up to accomplish your goals,” was a comment Mike Tyson made on a recent episode of his podcast ‘Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson.’

Whilst speaking with his guest Eminem, Tyson would go on to discuss his views on what he believes is the key way to achieve success.

Tyson, being one of the greatest of all time to step into a boxing ring, should know a thing or two about success, and he believes that to achieve it you have to sacrifice your happiness if you want accomplish your life goals as there is so much competition in the word.

“To be a fighter, it takes a special kind of person, a special kind of commitment,” was a comment Eminem made to Tyson, which Tyson replied to in typical fashion, stating that fighting is about spirit and that if you wanted to do it, you could at any age.

The youngest ever heavyweight champion also commented that 'everybody gets their turn' in relation to being at the top of their field, as long as they are willing to put the work in, in the first place.

"In anything, you want to be the best garbage can collector in the world, best in the world at anything … there's going to be disappointment. There's a lot of competition.”

Tyson further made the point how people peak at different points of their lives.

"There's guys who will peak at a younger age than you and blow you away, then you have to deal with a guy who blows you away when he's old.

"Then there'll come a time when you're experienced enough you're blowing everybody away. Everybody gets their turn."

This isn’t the first time that Tyson has expressed his ‘sacrifice for success’ attitude, whilst in an interview with Time five years previous to the podcast episode, Tyson stated: "Unfortunately, sometimes you can't have fun accomplishing your goals. And some people don't have the determination, will, tenacity … to go through the slightest struggle."

Some powerful words from the youngest ever heavyweight champion.
