A photo of Liverpool duo Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson from 2013, in which the defenders are competing against each other for Celtic and Dundee United respectively, has led to plenty of debate.Just who came out on top?In the photo, Van Dijk and Robertson are battling for the ball and it’s not entirely clear who’s in the better position.Van Dijk could be nutmegging Robertson. The left-back could also be stopping his opponent in his tracks.Robertson conducted a Twitter Q&A this week and the image was the subject of one of the questions.“Do you or Virgil remember this photo 6 years ago and who do you think won the ball there?” a supporter asked.

The Scotland international responded by saying: “I won the ball, had him in my back pocket all game!!”

But Van Dijk hit back by claiming that he nutmegged Robertson.

Video footage has now emerged and it settles the argument.

Van Dijk did indeed nutmeg Robertson, and in a dangerous area too, but Robertson’s teammate came across to clear the ball.

We’re still giving the win to Van Dijk, though.

Being nutmegged is one of the worst experiences a footballer can experience.

We’re sure Van Dijk had something to say about it when the pair met up at Liverpool.

Their rise has been nothing short of extraordinary.

Both have gone from the top flight of Scottish football to champions of Europe in the space of a few years.

Indeed, it was only eight years ago that Robertson was complaining on Twitter about being unemployed.

“life at this age is rubbish with no money #needajob,” an 18-year-old Robertson wrote on August 18, 2012.

Now he’s arguably the best player in the world at his position. He has a Champions League winner’s medal, and will soon have a Premier League winner’s medal as well.

That’s some journey.
