There is a lot of uncertainty surrounding the current Premier League season.

All English leagues have been postponed indefinitely due to the coronavirus outbreak.

At the moment, English football will not resume until April 30 at the earliest but, there are doubts that it will resume then.

So, what will happen about the 2019/20? Will it be declared null-and-void? Will it be extended beyond the summer? Or will it be completed on time?

Of course, the best scenario would be for it to be completed before the start of next season.

And that's exactly what the Premier League intend to do and they've already devised a plan to allow it to do so.

According to the Telegraph, the league are said to be tentatively scheduling a plan which involves games starting after June 1.

Games will be played behind closed doors and all completed in a six-week period.

Players and teams would then get four weeks to prepare for the 2021 season, which will then be started on time.

This plan would satisfy the requirements of broadcasters and would also have no impact on next season's start time.

If this could be done, it would be an ideal scenario. One issue would be the problem of burnout, though.

From a players point of view, they would not get any summer holidays and wouldn't get much, if any, break in-between seasons. It's likely they wouldn't be too happy with that and clubs may be concerned too.

Moreover, the coronavirus is only getting worse in England and there's no telling what the situation would look like in a few months' time.

The Premier League would also have to get special dispensation from the government.

That's because they would need the presence of emergency crews within the ground during games. Those services are already in short supply.

So there's a lot of issues surrounding this plan which, at the moment, is viewed as one of the best case scenarios from the Premier League and English Football League.

Let's hope it can come into fruition so that the season can finish without affecting the start date of the 2020/21 campaign.
