Wayne Rooney has admitted that Liverpool 'deserve' to win the Premier League and has called for this season to be completed before the next begins.

The spread of coronavirus has suspended almost all sporting events worldwide and England's domestic action won't resume until April 30 at the earliest.

But there's a strong belief that the campaign may not re-start until much later this year, or even at all.

Calling off the 2019/20 season would cause an uproar, but it remains a possibility, especially if the Covid-19 situation worsens.

Yet, even Man United legend and former Everton star Rooney believes the current campaign needs to be concluded to hand Liverpool what they deserve.

"Liverpool will win the Premier League. [They] have been fantastic. They have put so much work in. They deserve this title," he said, per the Mirror.

"Can you imagine waiting 30 years and then having it taken away like this? The right decision has been made.

"The fair thing is to finish 2019-20 - even if we have to lose next season in the process. It wouldn't surprise me if finishing the season takes until the end of 2020."

Despite making a call for the Premier League season to be completed, Rooney also suggested that we're in 'unknown territory' and the 'necessary precautions' must be taken.

"Football, like every other industry, is in unknown territory and, just like every other industry, has to listen to the advice and take all necessary precautions," he continued.

"It's also right in terms of promotion and relegation. These issues are so big for the clubs involved that I imagine there would be a lot of legal fights if the season was just abandoned."

If even Man United's record goalscorer is calling for their biggest rivals to be crowned champions, then surely there's no-one else that can really justify deeming the season null and void.

Rooney is absolutely right, there's no way next season can start before the current one is completed, so let's hope the Premier League do what's right.
