Matt Hardy has revealed that Vince McMahon admitted he would truly be ‘out of touch’ if WWE fans enjoyed the Ultimate Deletion match between Hardy and Bray Wyatt.

Matt Hardy and Bray Wyatt took part in a special Ultimate Deletion match during their feud in March 2018 and it took place at the Hardy Compound.

According to Matt on the Talk is Jericho podcast, he and Wyatt had recorded the match for Raw and showed it to the WWE production team before it was broadcasted, including Vince McMahon.

Hardy recalled that there was a positive reaction to the match by many members of the production team, with clapping and standing ovations around the room.

However, the WWE Chairman didn’t understand the match. In fact, according to Matt, he admitted that if the match did well with the fans and numbers-wise, he would truly be ‘out of touch’ with the fans.

He said, via Sportskeeda: “He watched it in the production meeting and a few people in there had watched it already.

“After it was over, it ended and everybody clapped and stood up, and he was kind of looking around and he told a couple of people, ‘I don’t get it, I just… I don’t get it. If it does good, if it does a number, then I’m truly out of touch.’ I think he said that.”

The Ultimate Deletion match received a great reaction from the WWE Universe. The segment trended on social media for four hours and it had over three million viewers in the final hour of Raw. One section of the match currently has just under 4.5 million views on YouTube.

However, despite the great numbers, Vince never booked any further Ultimate Deletion matches while Matt was with the WWE.

Following this match, Hardy managed to win the Andre the Giant Battle Royal thanks to Wyatt’s help, and the two became a successful tag team, winning the Raw Tag Team Championship, before splitting up off-screen due to Matt picking up an injury.

Matt and WWE have now gone their separate ways, as he left the company upon the expiration of his contract back at the start of March due to creative differences.

Hardy revealed earlier this week on Wednesday that he had signed for AEW after he made an appearance following the main event match on Dynamite.

Wyatt, on the other hand, has since gone on to recapture the fan’s attention, as he has one of the hottest gimmicks in the WWE right now as The Fiend.
