Lewis Hamilton has appealed to the public to stop all forms of socialising activities due to the coronavirus outbreak.
This comes along with the Prime Minister’s speech on Friday that announced that all pubs, leisure centres and shops were to close that night, in order to encourage the public to self-isolate and stop the spread of the virus.
Many governments around the world at this point had already taken precautions to contain the spread of the virus after it has already claimed the lives of over 13,000 people globally.
Hamilton has already seen his career halted for the time being, with seven opening races of the Formula 1 season being impacted and the Australian and Monaco Grands Prix being cancelled altogether.
Last season’s Formula 1 champion took to social media to spread his concerns towards those who are still socialising throughout the pandemic:
“There is nothing we can do about it either way except try to isolate ourselves, stop ourselves from catching it and spreading it.
There are people out there still going to clubs and bars and large gatherings which I personally feel is totally irresponsible and selfish.
Hamilton further went on to label public health officials and grocery store employees that are still having to work through this situation as heroes:
“I’m praying for those working at the local stores, deliverers, doctors and nurses who put their own health at risk to help others and keep the countries running. Those are the heroes. Please stay safe people.”
There have also been concerns over Hamilton’s health after he came into close contact with both Idris Elba and Sophie Trudeau in recent weeks, both of whom have tested positive for coronavirus.
Fortunately, Hamilton has since said that he is showing no symptoms of the coronavirus and is now self-isolating.
He has also stated that he won’t be taking a test for coronavirus, in order to save a kit for someone more vulnerable to the disease.
