Women's Super League side Chelsea have announced that  Melanie Leupolz will join the club next season.

Leupolz will move to the Blues from German giants Bayern Munich, signing a three-year deal. The 25-year-old comes to England with a wealth of experience, having played in the Frauen-Bundesliga since 2011.

In her time with Bayern, she has won two league titles and captained the club for two seasons. The midfielder has made 66 appearances for Germany, scoring 10 goals - making her debut on June 19, 2013, in a 1-0 win over Canada.

She has also been successful at the international level, winning the UEFA Women's European Championship in 2013, the Algarve Cup in 2014, and an Olympic Gold medal at the 2016 games.

Talking to Chelsea's club website, Leupolz said the following on her move to Kingsmeadow:

"It’s a really big move, it’s my first move to another country and I’m really looking forward to it.

"I believe in what Chelsea are doing as a club and I am excited to be a part of that. They want to win titles, and so do I.

"I also like the style of football they play. I have seen a lot of their matches and I think it’s the right club for me."

Blues' manager Emma Hayes, who led the club to Continental Cup victory this season, added:

"Melanie has the right qualities that we look for in players at Chelsea. She’s got international experience, been the captain of Bayern Munich and her best years are yet to come.

"t’s a real statement of intent that she chose Chelsea and it shows just how far we’ve come as a football club.

"Melanie is versatile, she’s got wonderful qualities in the midfield areas and she will provide much-needed depth – I’m looking forward to welcoming her to the club."
