Not many sports have been hit as hard as Formula One due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Not only have they already missed the first two races of the season, supposed to be in Australia and Bahrain last weekend and this weekend respectively, they will also miss the next six races after they've all been postponed and/or cancelled.
The races scheduled for Vietnam, China, Holland, Spain, Monaco and Azerbaijan have all been shelved due to the ongoing outbreak, and it looks like things won't be improving any time soon.
If things do improve from here on out, however, the first Grand Prix of the 2020 season will be in Canada, which is currently scheduled for June 14.
However, there is a strong possibility that this race won't go ahead either, and more decisions will have to be made by the FIA and Liberty Media.
Despite the ongoing virus crisis, and the fact every race has so far been cancelled, Chase Carey is adamant that the season can still go ahead, albeit a shortened campaign.
Speaking in a fresh statement about the 2020 season and the ongoing pandemic, Carey said he still garners hope for a 15-18 race season.
"While at present no one can be certain of exactly when the situation will improve, it will improve and when it does, we will be ready to go racing again," he stated, as per Sky Sports.
"We are all committed to bringing our fans a 2020 Championship Season.
"We recognise there is significant potential for additional postponements in currently scheduled events, nonetheless we and our partners fully expect the season to start at some point this summer, with a revised calendar of between 15-18 races."
When asked about the actual calendar for the season, Carey admitted that nothing could be planned due to the uncertainty of the current climate.
"It is not possible to provide a more specific calendar now due to the fluidity of the current situation, but we expect to gain clearer insights to the situation in each of our host countries, as well as the issues related to travel to these countries, in the coming month," Carey added.
