It's no secret that footballers get paid obscene amounts of money to play the game.

The world's best football clubs are desperate for success and pay whatever they feel is necessary to get the players they desire.

But who are the very best paid players in the world today?

France Football publish a report every year answering that very question.

And their 2020 edition has just been released. They don't just take into account every player's gross salary, but they also include money earned from advertisement and bonuses to come to a total of what every player earns.

And here's the top 10 highest paid players in the world per-year...

10. Kylian Mbappe - €27m

Mbappe is the youngest player on the list at 21 years old. If he's earning that much money now, imagine how much he'd be getting in his prime...

9. Robert Lewandowski - €29m

Lewandowski is the only player from the Bundesliga on the list.

8. Raheem Sterling - €33m

The Englishman is the only player from the Premier League on the list.

7. Andres Iniesta - €34m

Iniesta is now 35 and plying his trade in Japan but is stil the seventh highest paid player in the world.

6. Eden Hazard - €38m

Hazard cracks the top 10 following his big money move to Real Madrid last summer.

5. Antoine Griezmann - €38m

Griezmann had a huge pay-rise when he moved from Atletico to Barcelona last year.

4. Gareth Bale - €38m

Bale is the fourth highest-paid player... despite scoring just three times in 18 games for Real Madrid this season.

3. Neymar - €95m

There's a massive €57m gap from Bale in fourth to Neymar in third.

2. Cristiano Ronaldo - €118m

Now 35 years old but Ronaldo still earns over €100m per-year. Not bad.

1. Lionel Messi - €131m

Messi beats his eternal rival to top spot by a mere €13m.

And they also revealed the three best paid women in the world...

1. Carli Lloyd - €480,000

2. Megan Rapinoe - €415,000

3. Ada Hegerberg - €400,000

So that means Messi earns €130.5m more than the highest paid woman in the world. Wow.
