The UFC owner broke the news to ESPN's Brett Okamoto on Monday. He revealed that the fight is finally close to finalised.

Okamoto took to Twitter to break the news that all UFC fans have been eagerly awaiting.

"Per Dana White (@danawhite), a location for Khabib Nurmagomedov (@TeamKhabib) vs Tony Ferguson (@TonyFergusonXT) is '99.9 per cent done.'

"Confirms Khabib is back in Russia. I also asked him if it will be a full undercard for UFC 249 or a shortened lineup, he said full lineup."

UFC 249 was due to take place on April 18 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. However-because of the coronavirus pandemic- the governor Andrew Cuomo suspended mass gatherings and threw the whole fight into jeopardy.

On March 12- as the world began to spiral out of control- the decision was made to cancel events in New York. White has since been looking for a different location to show the matchup.

Having already cancelled three events- he was determined that this one would go ahead.

Lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov faces Tony Ferguson in the fight card's main event. The rest of the card is also due to go ahead, White confirmed.

White took to Instagram to poke fun at the fact that the fight might never happen. Posting this picture- with no caption- to his followers.

This bout is the fifth to be organised between the two, with the other four all being cancelled for other reasons.

It seems as though the UFC's persistence with this may finally be rewarded though and it also gives fight fans something to look forward to- especially in a time when not a lot else seems to make sense.

One thing is for sure- with the abilities of both these fighters- crowd or no crowd, it's still sure to be a spectacle.
