The notorious ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson, arguably one of the greatest heavyweights in boxing, has recently shared that he did not know how to handle the wealth and fame that he received from boxing.
Tyson, who is widely known for his controversial past, openly admitted on his regular YouTube show 'HotBoxin' that he was sick and needed help.
The former world heavyweight champion said: "When I was young I was an animal with money.
"Giving people money like f*** everybody, party with everybody and f*** their mothers, their sisters and their cousins... o****s. I was crazy.
"I was so sick and I had no idea I was so sick.
"I bought a lot of cars for girls too."
The American won 50 of his 58 professional fights, with his last bout coming against Irishman Kevin McBride in Washington back in 2005.
Tyson initially shot to stardom by becoming the youngest heavyweight champion at the age of just 20, when he defeated Trevor Berbick at the Las Vegas Hilton.
Tyson’s career, however, included comebacks from rape convictions and bankruptcy; he was jailed for six years in 1991 for the rape of 18-year-old Desiree Washington, a former Miss Black Rode Island model.
Returning to the ring two years following early release, he won his title back from Frank Bruno in 1996, but had his boxing licence suspended again for biting a piece of Evander Holyfield’s right ear.
That was not the end of the American’s troubles, however, as he subsequently filed for bankruptcy in 2003, despite earning $200 million dollars throughout his boxing career.
Following a period of redemption by starring in a few acting roles in Hollywood, the retired boxer in 2014 told the Guardian: “I look back at the life I once had and see that I didn't have an emotional problem. I had a morality problem. I was without any morals.”
Tyson still has a devout fan following and is looking to bring them together through opening up a 407- acre marijuana farm resort in California, sharing his well-known love of weed.
Some of his fanbase even remains in hope that he would one day return to the ring for a glorious send-off fight having recently demonstrated he still has the skills and technique while playing with his dog Mars on social media.
Few would certainly bet against one of the most iconic boxing superstars providing us with a final twist to an already extraordinary career.
