Video proves that Juventus legend Andrea Pirlo was 'immune to pressure'

Andrea Pirlo - man who really was immune to pressure!

Andrea Pirlo is one of the greatest midfielders to have graced the beautiful game.

Throughout his illustrious career, the Italian was a figure in hugely successful eras for both AC Milan and Juventus.

With Italy, Pirlo's brilliance in the middle of the park helped win the 2006 World Cup and he was also brilliant at Euro 2012 - where the Azzurri reached the final.

He was the definition of a fine wine. Pirlo's career really took off in the latter stages of his career and a video compilation of his exploits at the European Championships proves just that.

The silky playmaker was 32 when Euro 2012 rolled around, but he was out there putting younger players to shame with his brilliance.

The Italian really was immune to pressure. Most normal players would have lost the ball at least 75% of the time in those situations.

But when you hear Pirlo's description of how pressure impacts his psyche, you begin to understand why he was so unbreakable on the pitch.

"I don’t feel pressure," Pirlo said, per Goal. "I don’t give a toss about it. I spent the afternoon of Sunday, 9 July, 2006 in Berlin sleeping and playing the PlayStation. In the evening, I went out and won the World Cup."

No wonder Gianluigi Buffon once quipped: "Watching him [Pirlo] play, I thought, 'God exists!' Because it’s simply embarrassing how good he is."

Praise of the highest order.

Even Xavi Hernandez, a man who also made professional football look irritatingly simple, couldn't hide his admiration for Pirlo.

"When I watch Pirlo play, I have to admit that it's a wonder to behold," the Barcelona legend said. "I remain stupefied by him and I often watch Juventus games on TV only to admire him."

Players like Pirlo come around once every couple of decades and during these uncertain times of self-isolation, what better way to kill some time than watch the Italian genius strut his stuff, eh?
