Liverpool are being linked with a shock move for Aston Villa defender Richard Dunne.

The Irish international has reportedly fallen out of favour in the Midlands after an off-field bust-up with coaching staff, and The Metro claims Liverpool are considering a summer move.

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is also said to be interested, according to the paper, while Celtic were also linked with a move as recently as yesterday.

It would be an unexpected switch should Dunne make the move to Anfield, although the paper goes on to claim that the veteran could be an ideal replacement for Sotirios Kyrgiakos.

The Greek international has struggled recently after starting his career well at Liverpool, and is linked with a summer exit under the Dalglish reign.

A former Everton and Manchester City centre back, Dunne brings both Barclays Premier League and international experience to the table with over a decade in the game at the top flight. He's earned 64 Republic of Ireland caps to date.

Liverpool are thought to be in the market for players in a number of positions, with left back thought to be a key area of concern for the Scottish manager.

However, Dalglish has hinted at a number of changes in a variety of positions, and with the backing of owners NESV could make a number of significant moves for Liverpool at the end of the season.

Dunne is the most surprising of those recently linked to the Anfield outfit, although a move to United would be even more surprising given his City connections.
