Macclesfield pulled further clear of the relegation zone with a 2-1 win at 10-man Morecambe.

The Silkmen lost defender Paul Morgan to injury inside 15 minutes but took the lead two minutes before the break when midfielder Hamza Bencherif fired in his ninth goal of the season with a 25-yard strike.

Macclesfield doubled their lead in the 56th minute after Morecambe midfielder Stewart Drummond had been booked for bringing down Ross Draper.

Dan Gray whipped in the free-kick and Tyrone Barnett headed in from close range.

James Spencer pulled a goal back three minutes later when he slid in to convert Laurence Wilson's left-wing cross but the visitors were left to finish with 10 men when Drummond was dismissed in the 89th minute for a second bookable offence.
