Hampton suffered the damage to her ankle whilst in America for the #SheBelievesCup with the Lionesses. Before England faced Spain, Hampton was seen wearing a protective boot as a precaution alongside Bethany England.

With restrictions in place because of the COVID-19 virus, Hampton’s “rehabilitation won’t be as straightforward as normal” – Birmingham City quoted in their club update.

Interim Head Coach Charlie Baxter confirmed the injury to Birmingham City whilst saying: “Hannah injured her ankle ligaments when away with England.

“We aren’t able to speculate on the timescale. It’s an unusual situation in that we have to ensure there are no health and safety concerns around her rehabilitation programme for herself and the medical staff.

“So, we are handling that carefully and the main thing is that we do everything correctly.”

Hannah Hampton is not the only Blue who is currently injured, alongside the GK is midfielder Chloe Arthur. With there being a break in the Barclays FA WSL, and the FA Cup, it means that Arthur will be fully recovered when the games resume.

Due to Arthur suffering a head injury in their away WSL clash against Chelsea, the concussion protocols meant that she would have been forced to miss the next two games for Birmingham City.

The 24-year-old subsequently pulled out of the Scotland squad for the Pinatar Cup in Spain because of the concussion and would not have featured in the FA Cup Quarter-Final against Brighton & Hove Albion.

Baxter said to Birmingham City that “Chloe was on a ‘return to play’ training plan before our last game was postponed,”

“Physically she will be fine and it’s just a case of her continuing with the training and strength and conditioning programme she’s on at the moment.”

“Injuries are part and parcel of the game. It is what it is – you just have to deal with them.”
