The Premier League are plotting an ambitious plan to restart the 2019/20 season on the first weekend of May.
Football is currently in the midst of an almost worldwide sabbatical, with the Belarusian league currently the only top-flight division across Europe still in operation during the coronavirus pandemic.
It is still unknown when any of the continent's top five leagues will return to action in 2020 and there is a growing fear that the 2019/20 campaign will be declared null and void in certain countries.
But the Premier League and its clubs have made it well known to the public that they intend to end the current season by any means possible.
That means the prospect of playing most of the remaining games behind-closed-doors due to social distancing laws currently being enforced across the UK.
According to the Daily Mail, those games could be potentially returning to our television sets sooner than expected, though.
They report that the Premier League are ambitiously planning to restart the season on the first weekend of May and finish up sometime in July.
This would aid in their bid to meet the needs of UK broadcasters BT Sport and Sky Sports, with which they have a huge £3bn deal for rights.
However, there would be a significant number of complications with regards to the plan.
The government, public health bodies and the PFA would have to sign off on the proposed restart date and it's also likely that the coronavirus pandemic in the UK will be somewhere near its peak come the start of May.
But a restart in May is seen as vital to helping the financial need of Premier League clubs, who will require their last instalment of television money.
The government have stated they're desperate to get football back once it's safe and healthy to do so, so long as it's not a drain on resources.
One big issue will be convincing players to return to duty during these unprecedented times, but all clubs will be able to give their take on the proposals during a conference call on Friday.
There's a slim chance Liverpool could finally get their hands on the Premier League trophy before summer!
