Liverpool are exploring the sensational possibility of re-signing Raheem Sterling from Manchester City this summer.
According to L’Equipe, Liverpool are ‘thinking’ about making an incredible move for Sterling once they know how much money they will have in the next transfer window.
Sterling is currently stalling on signing a new contract at the Etihad and has reservations with City’s impending European ban.
One of Sterling’s entourage told L’Equipe: “Even if Raheem is attached to Manchester City, he hasn’t forgotten Liverpool, because that’s where he became who he is as a man and as a player.
“Of course, there was controversy surrounding his exit, but since then, time has run its course and everything is possible”.
Sterling recently spoke of his fondness for his former club.
“Would I ever go back to Liverpool? To be honest with you, I love Liverpool.
“Don’t get it twisted, they are always in my heart. It’s a team that done a lot for me growing up so…”
Sterling left Liverpool in unceremonious circumstances in 2015, for a fee potentially rising to £49 million. But he upset Liverpool supporters in the way he forced his exit, giving interviews to the BBC behind the club's back where he admitted he wanted to leave.
So he left the club that gave him the opportunity to progress in the first-team for City, where he has since won two Premier League titles, an FA Cup and three League Cups, while he has scored 89 goals in 230 appearances.
But Sterling has no plans to commit his future to Pep Guardiola's side if they aren’t playing in the Champions League. Meanwhile, Liverpool fear losing Sadio Mane to Real Madrid this summer and would see Sterling as the perfect player to replace him.
It obviously seems incredibly unlikely at this stage but we're currently living in rather strange times.
