Iron Mike, Kid Dynamite, The baddest man on the planet, whatever you called him, Tyson was one of the most ferocious fighters to step into the ring and the hardest-hitting heavyweight in boxing history.
Unsurprising then that the highlight reel of his best knockouts is a collection of brutal stoppages showing Tyson at his battling and brawling best:
10. Tyson vs Buster Mathis 1995
Billed as 'Presumption of Innocence', this fight marked Tyson's second appearance after serving a three-year prison sentence for the rape of 18-year-old Desiree Washington. Mathis was undefeated but also relatively unknown at the time.
The stoppage comes in the third round as Mathis is leaning into Tyson to keep space at a premium. Tyson pivots to work an opening and unleashes a devastating series of uppercuts that floors his opponent.
9. Tyson vs Henry Tillman 1990
Previous to this fight, Tyson had lost his Undisputed Heavyweight title after being knocked out in the tenth round by 42–1 underdog James "Buster" Douglas in one of the biggest upsets in sports history.
Tillman was an Olympic Gold medallist in 1984 and had twice defeated Tyson as an amateur, effectively costing Tyson a spot on the U.S. Olympic team.
Tillman spent the most of the first round of this bout trying to stay out of Tyson's way. He couldn't evade him for long enough though and was backed into a corner before catching a heavy right hook that sent him onto his back.
8. Tyson vs Frank Bruno 1989
A bout between Bruno and Tyson had been scheduled for the end of 1988 but a broken hand sustained during a street fight meant that Tyson has to delay until early 1989.
Bruno spent the early rounds learning the painful lesson that it was difficult to go toe-to-toe with Iron Mike and was on the canvas and on the ropes more than he was in the fight.
By the time round five rolled around Bruno was looking like a knockout waiting to happen, Tyson landed successive heavy uppercuts and the referee stepped in to call time before Bruno hit the canvas.
7. Tyson vs Marvis Fraizer 1986
Tyson was on fire during 1986 recording 9 victories in that year alone giving him a 24 - 0 record going into a fight against the son of the legendary Joe Frazier.
Marvis came in to the fight with a decent 16 - 1 record but no notable victories and it showed within the opening few seconds. In fact there were only the opening few seconds.
Tyson charged out of the corner with a series of jabs and uppercuts that knocked Frazier out cold within 30 seconds - the fastest win of his professional career.
6. Tyson vs Clifford Etienne 2003
This fight came on the back of Tyson's knockout loss to Lennox Lewis in 2002 which would prove to be the final title fight of his career.
Labelled 'Back to business', the build up to the bout was anything but with trainers publicly concerned about Iron Mike's conditioning and multiple 'almost' cancellations.
This fight was one round of wild blows thrown by both fighters, little connected until Tyson landed a right hand that ended the night.
5. Tyson vs Carl Williams 1989
You might have seen the video of this Tyson knockout before, it's the one where a woman is screaming in the background while Williams tries to get back to his feet.
Tyson weaves under a loose jab and unleashes one of the biggest left hands your're likely to see, to be fair to the woman in the audience the sound on impact is pretty sickening.
The TKO call was a little controversial as the referee seemed to ignore a more coherent Williams when he did regain his feet within the count. After taking that left though there wouldn't have been much left in the fight anyway.
4. Tyson vs Francois Botha 1999
Fresh from a ban for biting Evander Holyfield's ears TWICE during a 1997 bout, Tyson announced he was facing up against former IBF Heavyweight champion Francois Botha.
Despite being out of the rig for an extended period of time, Mike was confident of his chances telling the press: "I am going right at him and I expect him to go down cold, I expect him to die."
More sickening sound effects as the man known as The White Buffalo socks a huge right in round 5 that sends him to the canvas and stumbling around the ring as he tried to get back to his feet.
3. Tyson vs Larry Holmes 1988
This bout saw Tyson up against 38-year-old former WBC and IBF champion Larry Holmes who had spent two years away from the ring.
The buildup was dominated by an outspoken Holmes who claimed Tyson was a dirty fighter who lacked class, he even promised to knock Tyson out.
In the ring, however, youth prevailed, in the fourth Tyson chased Holmes around the ring knocking him down several times before landing a right hook that would end the fight.
2. Trevor Berbick vs Mike Tyson 1986
Tyson met Berbick in a fight billed 'Judgement Day' for the WBC Heavyweight Championship crown. 32–year-old Berbick was the newly crowned WBC champion and was entering his first defence against a young Tyson in sensational form.
In a vintage performance, Tyson took the fight on the front foot from the off, hammering Berbick with powerful shots throughout the first.
Tyson continued the second round in the same vein dropping his opponent almost immediately. Berbick made it back to his feet but was caught by an incisive left hook that sent him reeling across the ring and out of the fight.
1. Tyson vs Spinks 1988
A meeting of two heavyweight champions, both undefeated, one holding titles across all three major sanctioning organisations, the other holding the lineal championship.
Spinks came into the fight as 'the peoples champion' with many anticipating the mismatch of styles between the two fighters.
What they got was 91 seconds of Mike Tyson the brawler forcing Spinks to one knee with a crushing body blow and then finishing the fight with a brutal one-two combination that saw Spinks flat on his back.
