Robin van Persie picks out the five Manchester United teammates who impressed him the most

Robin van Persie made a controversial move in 2013 when he jumped ship from Arsenal to Manchester United.

The Dutchman listened to 'the little boy inside [him]' who was apparently 'screaming' for United - and that was enough to push through a move to Arsenal's long-term rivals.

But while Arsenal lost their captain and star player, United hoped to gain the striker they needed to recapture the Premier League trophy.

And that's exactly how things panned out as Van Persie scored the goals that saw Untied win the 2012/13 title in what turned out to be Sir Alex Ferguson's final season.

It remains their last Premier League title and thus the last great United side, with everything afterwards looking quite broken.

Seven years later, Van Persie has given his thoughts on that team and who really stood out to him over the title-winning campaign.

So who would he choose as the five who impressed the most?

“It's hard to answer because most of them were impressive in their own style," he told So Foot.

"I think you always have to be yourself, and these players were strong because they expressed their own nature.

"[Nemanja] Vidic was a warrior. He put his head where normally it's scary to do so. He did anything to win.

"[Rio] Ferdinand, he was more ‘elegant’, comfortable with the ball, strong in aerial play, good in long play.

"[Ryan] Giggs was the flamboyant player, always giving the impression of being in his comfort zone. Still in great shape at 39! He did yoga and lived football all the time.

Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand stood out to Van Persie.

"Rooney was impressive in his own style too. The guy was always full on.

"Also Patrice Evra, who always spoke loudly to instil confidence in the team. Today, I know he makes ‘funny’ videos, but please don't believe that’s all he is, as he is also a super professional and a super-intelligent guy.

"He speaks five languages – even Korean! His physical appearance shows how professional he is. His mind is as strong as his body.”

Vidic, Ferdinand, Giggs, Rooney, Evra - what United would do to have those five at the club right now.

Instead, they remain the best of the last great United team, with Van Persie himself, of course. And it's about time a new group of players could be talked about in the same way.
