This week's episode of Monday Night RAW was the go-home show for WrestleMania 36.

The Showcase of the Immortals will air this weekend, so you'd expect interest in WWE to peak - that's what normally happens, of course.

But this isn't a normal year. The coronavirus pandemic has forced SmackDown and RAW to the Performance Center, with no live crowd.

It's hard to build hype for WrestleMania (which will air from the same venue, with no audience) in this climate.

WWE probably expected a drop in viewership as the appeal of empty arena shows wears off, but they probably weren't expecting numbers to plummet as much as they have.

The go-home edition of RAW drew the lowest viewership of 2020 so far and almost hit record low figures.

Per NoDQ, the show was watched by 1.923 million people - down from last week's 2.006 million viewers.

The hourly numbers for Monday are broken down below:

Hour 1: 2.139 million
Hour 2: 1.986 million
Hour 3: 1.646 million

Just look at the third hour - absolutely brutal. That's the worst in RAW's history.

This year's WrestleMania go-home show is down 700,000 viewers from 2019, which attracted an average of 2.639 million.

To put it into perspective, this week's numbers were close to non-holiday record-low of 1.835 million, from December 23rd 2019.

It's absolutely abysmal, but it's important to remember we're in a very odd climate.

Momentum and marketing are key to ratings and right now, heading into WrestleMania 36, WWE have neither of those.

But despite low viewership for the go-home show and a number of other reported problems (including superstars pulling out,) the biggest event of the year is still going ahead.

It will certainly be interesting to see how many viewers the RAW after WrestleMania draws next week.
