During this extended break in football, clubs will have extra time to prepare potential signings for next season - when it eventually begins.

We’re not quite sure whether the transfer window will open as normal but clubs will no doubt be taking this time to identify players they want to sign for 2020/21.

The state of the transfer window may be volatile when football eventually does open.

Will transfer fees be affected? Will some clubs be more willing to sell their star players in order to recoup some much-needed money?

Nobody really knows but that doesn’t stop fans from speculating who their club might sign ahead of next season.

And the Manchester Evening News decided to get involved.

They’ve speculated over Manchester United’s ‘perfect’ 25-man squad for next season and here’s how it looks:

Goalkeepers: De Gea, Henderson, Romero

Three pretty good goalkeepers here. David de Dea would face stiff competition from Dean Henderson, who returns from Sheffield United.

Would Henderson be happy playing back-up to Gea? And would Romero be happy being third-choice?

Defenders: Maguire, Lindelof, Bailly, Smalling, Tuanzebe, Wan-Bissaka, Dalot, Shaw, Williams

No new additions in defence for United but the return of Chris Smalling who is enjoying a loan spell at Roma. There’s certainly enough depth with Eric Bailly, Smalling and Axel Tuanzebe likely play back-up to the centre-back pairing of Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof. Meanwhile, Diogo Dalot will provide Aaron Wan-Bissaka with competition at right-back, and Brandon Williams and Luke Shaw will compete for the left-back slot. Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo look set to leave.

Midfielders: Fred, McTominay, Matic, Partey, Fernandes, Mata, Grealish

You’ll notice there is no Paul Pogba, while the names of Thomas Partey and Jack Grealish appear. United supporters will surely take that trade. It would mean a potential midfield-three of Partey, Bruno Fernandes and Grealish. Now that’s exciting.

Forwards: Rashford, Martial, James, Ighalo, Greenwood, Sancho

Joining Partey and Grealish through the door is Jadon Sancho - now that would be a coup for United. Ighalo has also been re-signed but a front-three of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Sancho would trouble any defence. Then, when the opposition is tired, bringing Daniel James, Mason Greenwood or Ighalo on would be plain cruel.
