Unsurprisingly, Conor McGregor has taken to his personal Twitter account to address the current situation involving Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson. It is highly likely that UFC 249 on April 18 will now NOT go ahead with the Russian defending his championship against the American, and this is due to him being stuck in his homeland.Khabib flew out of America and headed to Russia last week, it is believed, and since then, his country have entered a lockdown period and have decided to close all their borders; this being due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. That now means Khabib has no way of leaving Russia and either heading to America or the United Arab Emirates, where the fight was likely to take place.Due to that, he has now all-but confirmed his absence from the event, which leaves UFC, Ferguson and Dana White with a lot of head scratching to do.With Khabib writing a long statement on his personal Instagram account last night, it is now the turn of McGregor to react to the news, and he's taken to Twitter to congratulate the challenger. He posted: "The fact of this matter is, both Tony and Khabib where engaged in a game of chicken here towards the fight bell. With Khabib chickening out first. Making it 3-2 in pullouts in Tony’s favour."Khab scurried out of the U.S to home, and amid the crisis. Very high risk."Congrats Tony."

So, as you can see, McGregor clearly thinks Khabib made the decision to leave America on purpose, so that he wouldn't have to defend his title against Ferguson.

Did Khabib fly to Russia on purpose because he knew he'd then be stranded there? Or was it always a case of the fight being postponed no matter what?

We shall never know.
