Thierry Henry or Sergio Aguero? Football fans vote on which striker would lead their line

The question was put to GiveMeSport readers yesterday on Facebook. Who would you rather have, a prime Thierry Henry or a prime Sergio Aguero in your dream line-up?

Followers unanimously went with the former Arsenal and French striker over the current Manchester City number 10, with Henry gaining 81% of the vote compared to Aguero’s 19%.

What is interesting, however, if you compare the two strikers is that the Argentine has a better goal scoring record than the former Arsenal number 14.

To date, Aguero throughout his professional career has scored 372 goals compared to Henry’s 360. At the beginning of 2020, the Manchester City striker was also averaging a goal every 106 minutes compared with the Frenchman’s 122.

Aguero has only, however, managed 118 assists throughout his playing career versus Henry’s 161, proving perhaps that the Frenchman was more important to the whole team.

Henry has also won the Premier League Golden Boot a record four times, while Aguero has claimed it just once despite scoring at least 20 goals for six seasons running!

Football fans most likely also recall some of the Frenchman’s incredible solo efforts, including scoring a memorable goal against fierce rivals Tottenham Hotspur in 2002 during Arsenal’s 3-0 win.

Other memorable moments included that audacious volley over Fabian Barthez’s head back in the year 2000 against Manchester United, while surpassing Ian Wright’s record goal tally for the Gunners was equally iconic.

The Manchester City star has also had his fair share of highlights, however, particularly that one unforgettable Aguerooooo! goal in the 93rd minute against Queen’s Park Rangers on the last day of a dramatic 2011/12 season that secured City’s first top flight title in 44 years.

Overall, however, even though Aguero may have now surpassed Henry’s career goal tally, to fans, football is not just about goals.

Most followers of the beautiful game as seen from our poll will undoubtedly choose the Frenchman for not only the number of goals he scored, but for his number of mazy dribbles, fancy flicks and above all his touch of star quality and magic.
