UFC news: Khabib calls Conor McGregor ‘the easy fight’ after Irishman blasted him for UFC 249 withdrawal

Tensions continue to boil over between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor.

After McGregor's comments yesterday, the Russian has now claimed he would have been taking the ‘easier fight’ had he chosen him over Tony Ferguson.

Khabib was set to step in the Octagon with Ferguson on April 18 at UFC 249, but the fight has been left in doubt after the 31-year-old has been left stranded in his native Russia following the recent COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking to ESPN, the UFC lightweight champion gave his opinion on the prospect of the fight getting cancelled and used the opportunity to bad mouth his nemesis.

"I want to fight, it's why I choose this [Ferguson] fight," he explained to Brett Okamoto.

"Because this is a hard fight, because this is a egacy fight, this is like the number one fight for fans and it's the biggest fight in UFC right now.

"Of course, I can choose easy fight with chicken [McGregor], but I choose the hard fight and anything can happen, I can't control this."

Khabib also spoke of his lack of interest in the financial opportunity that a rematch with The Notorious would give him compared to a bout with Ferguson.

"UFC tried to make [a McGregor rematch]. I tell them, 'This guy don't deserve it. Bye-bye.' I can make with this chicken five times more money than with Tony Ferguson, and you know most people, they don't know about Tony Ferguson.

"A lot of people want to watch name versus name. This is not about skills versus skills. Very small people understand this."

The Russian stated that he would be very happy to face off against ‘El Cucuy’ as long as a location is sorted with the UFC.

"Right now, if they send me location, if I can come out from Russia and I can get to any country I'm going to fight. 100%, just give me location.

"Every day I send Dana White a message asking 'where is my location' you know, this isn't my mistake.

"There are too many questions that I cannot answer."

He also went on to express his regret towards the fans that this ‘dream match’ could be put to a halt.

"I understand why people are upset because it's a dream fight for fans, it's also my dream fight. I lose money, I lose so much money and so many things.

"Nobody lose like I lose, nobody, I lose so much things."
