The Vitality Netball Superleague say they are considering all available options whilst the league remains suspended as a result of the continuing coronavirus pandemic.

It was announced last month that the remaining matches in the league would be postponed until at least 30 April but it now looks as if the suspension will continue into the month of May.

A spokesperson for the Superleague told Sky Sports that they were focused on "supporting the whole netball family at this difficult time" and creating contingency plans for clubs.

"We are working closely with our partners to understand the true impact the coronavirus could potentially have on the sport ongoing so we can plan accordingly.

"Some VNSL teams have made the decision to furlough players and coaching staff during this difficult time, allowing them to access the Government's job retention scheme until they are able to safely return to court, this will allow VNSL teams to ensure long-term sustainability," the spokesperson added.

In Australia, home to the first-ever professional netball league, netball has already been suspended until 30 June. Players have been left on 'active rest' for seven hours a week.

The Super Netball league and Australian Netball Players Association have also announced that all players would take two weeks leave from their club duties from this week.

Several sports have already come out with their own proposals for how leagues will be finished for the 2019/20 season.

Yesterday, Tyrell's Premier 15s announced the 2019/20 season would be declared null and void with all the results achieved so far simply crossed out.

Following the announcement, RFU President Peter Wheeler said: "This has been a difficult decision to make in the most unprecedented of circumstances.

"There is no single solution that will suit every club, but the approach taken is one that we believe best reflects the nature of league rugby in England."
