Anthony Joshua’s heavyweight clash with Kubrat Pulev has been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Covid-19 has caused widespread disruption across the sporting world; bringing a sudden halt to football, cricket, golf, tennis, UFC and boxing too.
Joshua was due to take on Pulev on June 20 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but the bout has officially been confirmed as postponed.
The bout was set to have been for Joshua’s three heavyweight titles, but boxing fans will have to wait for the anticipated showdown.
In a statement by Matchroom, they said: “A new date for the event is currently being worked on.
“We’ll continue to explore the possibility of hosting this fight at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.”
It means boxing fans will also be forced to wait longer for any potential clash between Joshua and Tyson Fury.
A third fight between Deontay Wilder and Fury is likely to take place in October, but Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn is hopeful a deal can be struck to see Fury take on Joshua in a British heavyweight showdown.
Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: “But if it [Coronavirus delays] starts kicking on beyond that, then you get to a situation where if Joshua is only going to box once this year, he would very much like that to be against Tyson Fury.
“The situation is a little bit out of our hands in that, if Bob Arum and Al Haymon can talk and make Deontay Wilder wait a little bit, we would absolutely love to go into that fight next.”
He added: “I think a lot of it depends on Deontay Wilder. If he's willing to take that step-aside money. That's a conversation to be had with Bob Arum and Al Haymon to see if that's even possible.
“If it was possible and there was a way to make Kubrat Pulev wait, which I think is probably an easier job, then for sure, I think Anthony Joshua would be extremely interested in moving straight into the Tyson Fury fight. I think in an ideal world, we have that fight next.”
