If the coronavirus pandemic hadn’t halted the Premier League season, Liverpool would probably be champions by now.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are just two wins away from guaranteeing their first ever Premier League title and, in an alterative reality, would have been travelling to the Etihad this weekend expecting a guard of honour from Manchester City.

Instead, they wait patiently to discover whether the 2019/20 season will actually continue.

If it doesn’t, the Reds will have to pick themselves up and go again next campaign.

That certainly won’t be easy.

Therefore, Klopp may look to bring in some new players to help his squad get over the disappointment of seeing their record-breaking season go to waste.

But what will Liverpool’s squad look like after this summer’s transfer window?

Well, the Liverpool Echo have revealed Liverpool’s ‘perfect’ 25-man for the 2020/21 Premier League season.

It includes four new signings and a few departures…

Goalkeepers - Alisson Becker, Adrian, Caoimhin Kelleher

Nothing to see here.

Loris Karius is set to return to Anfield this summer but it’s highly unlikely he will remain on Merseyside for too long. Considering Adrian’s recent mistakes, 21-year-old Irishman Caoimhin Kelleher could become No.2 behind Alisson.

Defenders - Trent Alexander-Arnold, Andy Robertson, Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip, Dayot Upamecano, Max Clark, Neco Williams

With Dejan Lovren expected to leave the club, Liverpool could look to replace him with the highly-rated Dayot Upamecano. However, the 21-year-old Leipzig centre-back will be very expensive. There’s also a new arrival in the form of Max Clark. The Englishman, who is currently playing for Vitesse Arnhem and would provide competition to Andy Robertson in the left-back position.

At right-back, the talented Neco Williams will play a supporting role to Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Midfielders - Jordan Henderson, Gini Wijnaldum, Fabinho, Naby Keita, James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Todd Cantwell, Curtis Jones

Adam Lallana will leave the club at the end of his contract this summer and the gap left could be filled by Norwich’s Todd Cantwell, who has performed well in the Premier League this season.

Meanwhile, Curtis Jones will be promoted to the first-team and will be looking for more opportunities.

Forwards - Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Takumi Minamino, Timo Werner, Divock Origi

Holding onto Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino will, once again, be Klopp’s priority but the club have also been heavily linked with Leipzig’s Timo Werner.

That Liverpool squad is even stronger than the squad which has won 27 of their 29 Premier League games so far this campaign. With additions in defence, midfield and attack - without losing any key players - it means Klopp's side will surely fancy their chances of winning the title next season.

They have quality, depth and the perfect mix of youth and experience and will be favourites to win the 2020/21 title if this really is the squad to lead them into next season.
