This certainly isn’t the finest era of Arsenal’s rich history.

Before the coronavirus crisis disrupted the Premier League season, Mikel Arteta’s side sat ninth in the table - 13 points off the relegation zone and 42 points behind league leaders Liverpool.

In the previous three campaigns, they’ve finished 5th, 6th and 5th and don’t look like returning to the Champions League anytime soon.

But let’s not forget about some of the incredible players Arsenal have had down the years.

After all, sixteen years ago, they went the entire Premier League season without losing a match.

But who is the greatest player the club has ever seen?

Well, Gooners have been voting on ranker.com and we can now bring you the results.

We’ve identified the top 50 - and there’s a pretty obvious winner.

Let’s take a look:

50 | Lucas Torreira

49 | John Radford

48 | Jack Wilshere

47 | Andrey Arshavin

46 | Michael Thomas

45 | Olivier Giroud

44 | Bernd Leno

43 | Nicolas Anelka

42 | Paul Merson

41 | Petr Cech

50-41 summary

A lovely mix of past and present. The legendary John Radford played for Arsenal for 12 years, making almost 400 league appearances. But considering that was from 1964–1976, many fans perhaps don’t quite remember him.

Michael Thomas - who scored THAT famous goal to beat Liverpool to the league title in 1989 also features. Goalkeeper of today Bernd Leno and yesteryear, Petr Cech, also make the top 50.

40 | Hector Bellerin

39 | Theo Walcott

38 | Nigel Winterburn

37 | Ashley Cole

36 | Pat Rice

35 | Cliff Bastin

34 | Alexis Sanchez

33 | David Rocastle

32 Jens Lehmann

31 | Pat Jennings

40-31 summary

Despite Ashley Cole being something of a hate figure at Arsenal these days, he breaks into the top 40, ahead of former left-back Nigel Winterburn. Former defender - and coach - Pat Rice also features just below Arsenal’s third-highest goalscorer of all-time, Cliff Bastin.

Considering his record of 80 goals in 166 matches, Alexis Sanchez has to settle for 34th with his controversial move to Manchester United and then nightmare spell at Old Trafford perhaps clouding the judgement for many.

The late, great ‘Rocky’ comes in at 33rd.

30 | Laurent Koscielny

29 | Charlie George

28 | David O’Leary

27 | Nwankwo Kanu

26 | Alan Smith

25 | Alexandre Lacazette

24 | Kolo Toure

23 | Tomas Rosicky

22 | Gilberto Silva

21 | Robin van Persie

30-21 summary

Club legends Charlie George, David O’Leary and Alan Smith make the top 30.

Arsenal fans may not be too impressed after seeing Robin van Persie in 21st place. Although the Dutchman is fully deserving of his place having scored 132 goals in 278 games.

20 | Ray Parlour

19 | Liam Brady

18 | Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

17 | Martin Keown

16 | Mesut Ozil

15 | Lee Dixon

14 | Emmanuel Petit

13 | Aaron Ramsey

12 | Cesc Fabregas

11 | Santi Cazorla

20-11 summary

Now we’re getting serious.

The only pre-Premier League player that features in the top 20 is Liam Brady, who played for the Gunners between 1973–1980.

Elsewhere, current club captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is 18th, with current teammate Mesut Ozil two places ahead in 16th.

Midfield quartet, Emmanuel Petit (14th), Aaron Ramsey (13th), Cesc Fabregas (12th) and Santi Cazorla (11th) just miss out on the top 10.

10 | Marc Overmars

9 | Sol Campbell

8 | Freddie Ljungberg

7 | David Seaman

6 | Robert Pires

5 | Tony Adams

4 | Ian Wright

3 | Patrick Viera

2 | Dennis Bergkamp

1 | Thierry Henry

10-1 summary

So, Thierry Henry is Arsenal’s greatest ever player.

There’s not really any argument, is there? In eight seasons, Henry scored 228 in 376 matches, helping the club to two Premier League titles and two FA Cups.

He beats former teammates Dennis Bergkamp and Patrick Viera to the award.

In fourth is Arsenal’s second-highest goalscorer (behind Henry), Ian Wright.

Tony Adams (5th), David Seaman (7th) and Marc Overmars (10th) and joined by Invincibles Robert Pires (6th), Freddie Ljungberg (8th) and Sol Campbell (9th).
