WrestleMania: Braun Strowman wins Universal Championship by squashing Goldberg

Strowman wins the Universal Championship

Braun Strowman was crowned new Universal Champion at WrestleMania 36.

The Monster Amongst Men was drafted into the title match to replace Roman Reigns at very short notice but leaves with RAW's top prize after beating Goldberg on Saturday night.

In a move that shocked very few fans, the match lasted a mere 2 minutes and 10 seconds.

Strowman survived four - yes, four - spears before responding with three power slams of his own to put his opponent away.

It was a dominant victory, but one we all saw coming.

Goldberg was always expected to drop the Universal title at WrestleMania, but with Reigns pulling out, the only question was to who.

There will be very few complaints with Strowman holding the championship - he's arguably been underused by WWE throughout his career and could now push on.

Just how long he'll be holding the belt though, is unclear.

Given Reigns lost his opportunity due to the ongoing coronavirus situation, he'll surely be back in the title picture as soon as it's safe for him to return.

But will WWE now want to make Strowman look strong, and perhaps have him defending the title successfully a few times? It's quite possible.

The Universal Championship match was the penultimate bout of Saturday's WrestleMania event.

Seven other matches were aired, which included Miz and Morrison, Sami Zayn and Becky Lynch all defending their titles successfully.

New Women's Tag Team champions were crowned - Nikki Cross and Alexa Bliss - while Kevin Owens picked up a win against Seth Rollins and Elias beat King Corbin.

The Undertaker stole the show in the main event though. He buried AJ Styles in a brilliant Boneyard match.

There was so much great action on night one of WrestleMania 36 - roll on Sunday for night two!
