With an international week off in the Barclays Premier League, Manchester United stars are concentrating their efforts on playing for their countries, before they return to Old Trafford to defend their five point title lead.

Wayne Rooney is the sole selected Englishman chosen to join Fabio Capello’s squad, which will face Wales in a Euro 2012 qualifier on Saturday and then Ghana in a friendly on Tuesday. Both clashes are at Wembley.

In a boost for United’s youngsters, Chris Smalling as well as on loan pair Tom Cleverley and Danny Welbeck were called up for the under 21 England side, with the wonderkids playing against Iceland on Monday and in Denmark on Thursday.

United’s injured defender Nemanja Vidic is set to miss Serbia’s match ups with Northern Ireland and Estonia in the Euro 2012 qualifiers. This means the Manchester United captain won’t be facing Northern Ireland centre back Jonny Evans, who’s side takes on Serbia and Slovenia over the next week. Jonny’s brother Corry, who is currently on loan from Manchester Untied to Hull, is also making the international trip.

Javier Hernandez has been included in the Mexico squad for international match ups with Paraguay on Saturday and Venezuela on Wednesday. Hernandez has been in top form for United, with Ferguson and other squad members praising the match winner. Mexico’s media are watching the youngster closely with Chicharito tipped to be the South American side’s hero in the 2014 World Cup.

Meanwhile, Antonio Valencia is fit for Ecuador to play in friendlies with Peru and Columbia, with the clashes taking place in Netherlands and Spain respectively.

Republic of Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni has selected Darron Gibson to play in Euro qualifying matches against Macedonia and Uruguaym. 23 year old Gibson will be playing alongside English Premier League veterans Robbie Keane and Shay Given, where he will no doubt take some pointers.

Federico Macheda have been selected for the Italian under 21s side as they face Sweden and Germany, while Bebe is travelling with the Portugal under 21s squad in their friendly with the Republic of Ireland on Friday.
