Drew McIntyre fulfilled a lifelong ambition on Sunday night by beating the famous Brock Lesnar to become Britain’s first WWE champion.

McIntrye, who hails from Ayr in Scotland, upset the odds to defeat Lesnar, the former UFC champion and wrestling superstar, during night two of WrestleMania this weekend.

In a short but entertaining battle, McIntrye survived an early onslaught from Lesnar. He managed to ride out the champion's attacks, which classically consisted of a German Suplex as well as three F-5s.

Lesnar almost finished the contest with his third F-5 move, but McIntrye somehow managed to recover to launch into his own brutal onslaught.

It's also worth noting that after being hit by the first F-5, the Scottish challenger kicked out at one. Just goes to show how strong WWE want to make him look.

The British star landed some devastating Claymore Kicks which finally had Lesnar pinned to the ground and saw off the challenge from the dethroned champion.

It caps a quite remarkable journey for McIntyre and his rollercoaster career. After a long held ambition to become a wrestler from childhood, he started his career in the UK before making some fleeting early appearances in WWE back in 2008.

After being touted as ‘The Chosen One’ and a future world champion by WWE chairman Vince McMahon, it seemed he was destined for a glittering future within the sport.

After varying degrees of success on his own and with his largely unsuccessful stable 3MB, McIntrye was released from WWE back in June 2014. This devastating blow almost ended his career and he even watched WrestleMania 31 in a nightclub back home in Glasgow.

But after rebuilding his reputation on the independent scene, he secured a return to WWE in 2017 as part of their NXT brand. His triumphant return led him to becoming NXT champion before he was rewarded with a move back up to the main roster.

McIntryre then teamed up with Dolph Ziggler to win the Raw tag team championship, but his true comeback story shined earlier this year when he was the last man standing in the Royal Rumble match.

His comeback was finally complete on Sunday night when he defeated and dethroned Lesnar to become the first British WWE champion.

An incredible journey and flying the flag proudly for Britain across the pond.
