Jesse Lingard has no interest in joining Arsenal after reports linked him with a move

Jesse Lingard looks set to turn down a potential move to Arsenal and fight for his place at Manchester United.

Reports emerged over the weekend linking the out of favour midfielder with a move to north London, with United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer losing confidence in the 27-year-old.

Arsenal’s head of football Raul Sanllehi is said to be one of the favourites to get in contact with Lingard’s controversial agent Mino Raiola, but the player himself wants to see out his current contract, according to Metro.

Lingard has 12 months remaining on his £110,000-a-week deal at Old Trafford, though the club have an option to extend it by a further year.

He has scored just two times in 35 appearances in all competitions this season and has struggled to make an impact both in the starting line-up and from the bench.

However, Solskjaer remains an admirer of the midfielder, but the pair have clashed over off-field issues since the Norwegian’s appointment last March.

Lingard was reprimanded over a lewd video that he uploaded onto his snapchat last summer while on holiday.

Solskjaer dealt with the matter internally but warned the Warrington-born winger that his fate is in his own hands.

“That has been dealt with internally,” said Solskjaer.

“I am old-school, old-fashioned, quite big on discipline and self-discipline. I can’t spoon-feed these players, they have to go do it themselves.

“I have had many years at this club and I have seen which players have been successful. You have to be a strong character to play here. It’s not like I can tell them to pass from A to B, to C to D. They have to make their own decisions, in life as well.”

The England international is currently valued at around £30 million and despite his lack of recent form, a long list of suitors had emerged for the United academy graduate.

The Gunners chief Mikel Arteta was thought to be particularly keen on the midfielder, but must now find alternative options to solve his issues in the middle of the park, with Dani Ceballos set to leave when his loan from Real Madrid expires.

United meanwhile, have been linked to the likes of Jadon Sancho, Jack Grealish and James Maddison as Solskjaer looks to bolster his ranks and get the 20-time top flight champions back to the pinnacle of the sport.
