Preston have boosted their fight against relegation after signing Tottenham defender Bongani Khumalo on loan until the end of the season.

North End manager Phil Brown swooped to sign the South Africa international shortly before the loan window closed at 5pm on Thursday.

The 24-year-old centre-back is currently on international duty with the Bafana Bafana ahead of an African Nations Cup qualifier with Egypt at the weekend.

Khumalo joined Spurs in January from Supersport United for £1.5million.

He impressed boss Harry Redknapp during a trial spell but has yet to make his debut for the White Hart Lane outfit.

He will be eligible to play for Preston against Swansea at Deepdale on Saturday, April 2.
