Despite the delay to the start of the cricket season, Middlesex and Jersey cricket clubs have been in talks to discuss a partnership designed to increase opportunities for talented female cricketers.
It had been arranged that Jersey would visit Middlesex at the end of May, with a number of matches scheduled to take place, alongside group training sessions in new environments. Unfortunately, this tour was forced to be postponed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, but nonetheless, both sides remain committed to offering as many opportunities as possible.
Months of hard work have gone into establishing this partnership, but now both sides are looking at the bigger picture of long-term development. The new revised strategic plan will “enable both organisations to harness their combined expertise and resources” and to “create innovative programmes that push the boundaries of female cricket talent development.
Jersey are currently ranked number 37 in the ICC Associate Nations T20 rankings, whilst Middlesex boast England internationals including the likes of Sophia Dunkley in their ranks. The Head of Women’s Cricket for Middlesex- Danni Warren, , “Having discussed our respective visions in depth, it was obvious that we share a lot of common aspirations, making this partnership the natural next step.”
Echoing this ideology, Lee Meloy, Youth Performance Manager and Women’s Head Coach at Jersey commented “We are delighted to announce this partnership with Middlesex Cricket and look forward to the opportunities ahead. Looking at the bigger picture; it’s a very exciting time for Women’s cricket. To be able to work closely with such a well-established organisation will undoubtedly leave a legacy for our female cricketers.”
