Rio Ferdinand or John Terry?

Two elite, world class centre-backs on their day, but which one was better?

Well, according to our loyal Facebook fans, Ferdinand was the better player during his prime, with 51.1% of people voting for the former Manchester United man over the Chelsea legend.

In our closest poll yet, it was the United legend that just pipped Terry after over 116,000 people voted in the battle of the centre backs.

Both were playing in a blessed time for English defenders. There was such a big pool to choose from, with Jamie Carragher, Martin Keown and Sol Campbell to name just a few vying for a spot in the England side, but more often than not, it was Terry and Ferdinand who lined up together.

One was Chelsea. One was United. Fierce club rivals, but a brick wall for their country.

In terms of club honours, they had basically won all there was to win in the game. Ferdinand has six Premier League medals to his name, whilst Terry collected one less.

On the European scene, though, it was Terry who picked up more, winning one Champions League and one Europa League, compared to Ferdinand's just one Champions League.

In terms of domestic cup success, there was only one winner, and that was Chelsea's Terry.

Throughout his career, he won a staggering eight domestic cups, whilst Ferdinand only got his hands on two.

So despite Terry having the bigger trophy cabinet, it's Ferdinand who has won our poll with the fans.

Of course, this could just be Manchester United fans taking over our poll, but alas, the football world has spoken for now, and we must give it to Rio Ferdinand, even if it is by the slenderest of margins!
