Manchester United’s star winger Nani has told Spanish magazine Don Balon of how Sir Alex Ferguson ‘clipped my wings’, and taught the youngster to play to win matches rather than to show off new tricks.

"I try to enjoy playing now, but it is not always possible because I have a responsibility to the team," Nani said.

The 24 year old has been brilliant for United so far this season, netting ten goals and contributing to important wins that have put the Red Devils in the winning seat for the title.

After a difficult upbringing, Nani learned to play football on the street and went on to join Portugese outfit Sporting PC. From there he was discovered by Manchester United scouts, and the rest is history.

Now, while the winger plays in line with Sir Alex Ferguson’s tactics, he still experiments with old tricks when he has the chance.

"Something of the street remains in me,” Nani said.

“It is not easy to show at Manchester United because Sir Alex does not allow very much freedom and I cannot do the tricks and things I did with

my friends.

"But when the game is under control I take a risk and it makes me very happy if things work out."
