Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has offered to supply 'food packages of everyday essentials' to the elderly in his hometown of Mosborough in South Yorkshire.

Maguire’s heartfelt pledge comes just a day after Premier League stars launched the Players Together campaign to assist the NHS during the coronavirus pandemic.

The 27-year-old was born in Yorkshire and started his career playing at Sheffield United, before moving on to Hull, Leicester and now United.

Maguire has often shared of his enduring bond with the Mosbourough locals and his enermous pride of hailing from the small town.

According to the Mirror, the England international will arrange for food parcels to be delivered to a local shop and will then be delivered by local retailers to anyone in the community who is over 70 years old.

Mosborough community Forum shared the story via their Facebook page yesterday:

“We have been contacted by local boy Harry Maguire and we have some nice news to share.

“The Manchester United and England footballer kindly offered to supply a food package of everyday essentials to the elderly (70 and over) in Mosborough district.

“Harry recognises the difficulty for some of our older residents getting out and about currently, plus the amazing friends, family and carers that have been looking after them. Therefore, he wanted to do something to help.

“Harry is arranging for the food parcels to be kindly made up by Herrings Top Shop. These will be then delivered by Fields Fruit and Veg so it’s a real community effort!

“As well as the two retailers, we would just like to say thank you to Harry and his family for this act of kindness and helping the elderly in the Mosborough community.”

Maguire has hailed the nation’s efforts to support the NHS after United also announced a package of measures designed to help the fight against the deadly virus.

The Red Devils sent 16 of the club’s ‘Foundation’ vehicles to the Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust and the NHS Manchester Foundation Trust Charity.

Last week, top flight Premier League officials confirmed that the competition is now on hold until it is ‘safe and appropriate’ to return.

On top of this, chief executive Richard Masters warned that the suspension could cost the league upwards of £1 billion.

In these troubling times, with so much going wrong in the world, it’s great to see players like Maguire step-up and help those who are less fortunate.
