Colchester chairman Robbie Cowling has reaffirmed his backing for manager John Ward.

Ward has come under fire from supporters following the recent four-match losing run which has seen the Us' play-off hopes virtually disappear.

But Cowling has been forced to cut the transfer budget at the Community Stadium and insists Ward is the right man to bring through youngsters instead.

"Achieving everything I want for Colchester United is going to take me a bit longer than I originally thought and to do so I need a manager who knows how to find and develop young talent and I need to give him time to do so," said Cowling.

"I am convinced John Ward is that man and he will be given plenty of time."
