Lionel Messi is probably the greatest dribbler in football history.

When the Argentine gets going, the ball appears as if it is superglued to his feet as he glides past hapless defenders with nonchalant ease.

The Barcelona legend is one of the few players in the world to not need an array of fancy flicks and tricks to get past his opponents - his feints and body movement are more than enough.

With all that in mind, it's no surprise that Messi has been the most effective dribbler in world football since the beginning of the 2006/07 season.

But the numbers behind his first-place ranking are quite remarkable. In total, Messi has completed 1,880 take-ons, which is an absolutely frightening amount.

The closest player to him is Real Madrid's Eden Hazard, with the Belgian completing 1,220, a full 660 less than Messi.

You can find the full top 10 below, with Neymar surprisingly in 10th.

Nothing to see here, just the fact that Messi has completed 1,064 more take-ons than Cristiano Ronaldo...

What makes that gulf even more astonishing is that the data compiled comes from seasons when Ronaldo was renowned as a truly elite dribbler.

His final seasons with Manchester United and the start of his Real Madrid career were typified by the way he used to embarrass opposing defenders with his dribbling ability.

In recent years, the Portuguese legend has become more of an out-and-out goal scorer, with the odd mazy run thrown in for good measure.

Sergio Aguero coming in at fourth is pretty eye-catching, while Roberto Firmino's dribbling ability cannot ever be questioned again based on his placing in ninth.

The Liverpool forward has dazzled fans with his array of skills over the past few seasons and recently earned himself a five-star rating for skills on FIFA 20.

But the Brazilian has got some way to go to get to Messi's level!
