WWE has confirmed that an unnamed member of on-screen talent has tested positive for coronavirus.

While it's not someone on the active roster, it is a member of staff who works on television, close to those performing.

Pro Wrestling Sheet reports that the person went out for dinner with friends who work in the healthcare industry after the last batch of tapings were completed before WrestleMania.

They then began feeling symptoms of the virus and tested positive, before immediately going into quarantine.

It has also been confirmed that the individual has now made a full recovery.

Despite a positive coronavirus case in the company, WWE will continue to run live shows, starting with Monday Night RAW on April 13.

The following statement was provided to Pro Wrestling Sheet:

"A WWE employee has tested positive for COVID-19.

"We believe this matter is low risk to WWE talent and staff, as the individual and a roommate became symptomatic in the days following exposure to two people working in acute health care on the evening of March 26, after WWE’s TV production on a closed set was already complete.

"The employee had no contact with anyone from WWE since being exposed to those two individuals, is doing well, and made a complete recovery."

Pushing on with live broadcasts after this news will no doubt cause controversy.

WWE has already been criticised for rolling through WrestleMania season and filming at a closed Performance Center set in Orlando while the state has gone into lockdown.

But the company have now released a statement explaining why they don't want to stop performances amid the coronavirus crisis, which reads:

"We believe it is now more important than ever to provide people with a diversion from these hard times.

"We are producing content on a closed set with only essential personnel in attendance following appropriate guidelines while taking additional precautions to ensure the health and wellness of our performers and staff.

"As a brand that has been woven into the fabric of society, WWE and its Superstars bring families together and deliver a sense of hope, determination and perseverance."
