Man United's 2020/21 starting line-up predicted after transfer window on Football Manager

Manchester United can expect to be busy in the transfer window – whenever it opens.

The coronavirus crisis has brought the 2019/20 season to a halt and there is no indication yet as to when clubs will be allowed to sign players again.

It’s even been reported that a third transfer window could be opened to enable clubs to buy and sell players and balance the books after the pandemic.

The governing bodies will have to work out the easiest solution for players and clubs. But what can be said with certainty is that the Red Devils will splash the cash when the window opens.

They’ve been linked with a host of names including Jadon Sancho, Jack Grealish and James Maddison.

However, United don’t sign any of those names in a simulated transfer window on Football Manager 2020.

The Mirror have used the computer simulation game to see which players will come and go at Old Trafford in the summer, and the results were rather interesting.

Players in

Man United signed six players in the transfer window, splashing out £112 million on their new signings.

The most expensive of those is Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans, a player who has been linked with United in real life.

United pay £64m for the virtual Tielemans.

They also sign Borussia Dortmund winger Thorgan Hazard, who joins for a £36m fee.

Virtual Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also completes low-cost moves for Albert Sambi Lokonga from Anderlecht, Xadas from Braga and Sofiane Alakouch from Nimes.

The final signing of the window is a big one: Edinson Cavani joins on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain.

Players out

United balance the books by offloading eight players and recouping £107m.

Paul Pogba, whose future at the club is unclear in real life, joins PSG for £106m.

Nemanja Matic signs for Zenit Saint Petersburg on a free and Blackburn Rovers pay £625,000 for Lee Grant.

Five more players leave on a free. Jacob Carney joins Boreham Wood, Largie Ramazani joins Derby County, Timothy Fosu-Mensah joins Birmingham City, D’Mani Mellor joins Middlesbrough and Demetri Mitchell joins Inter Miami.

Man United’s XI

Man United supporters would probably be disappointed by that.

They sell a world-class talent in Pogba and while his replacement, Tielemans, is good, he’s not on the Frenchman’s level.

Hazard is a fine signing but United fans would much prefer his teammate, Sancho, to arrive instead.

And they don’t sign any of the other talented players they have been linked to in real life, including Grealish and Maddison.

Thankfully, none of this is real and, though his record isn’t spectacular, we hope executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward can do better when the real window opens.
