Manchester City star Bernardo Silva has played down the importance of the PFA Players' Player of the Year award.Despite City winning the Premier League on four separate occasions, no player from the team has ever lifted what is considered to be English football's most prestigious individual award.City's first title win in 2011/12 saw Arsenal's Robin van Persie win the accolade, with Liverpool's Luis Suarez lifting the award in 2013/14.The last two seasons in which City have won the title saw Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk scoop the PFA prize.Silva has questioned whether Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling - the two main challengers to the Liverpool duo in those years - should have won instead.Speaking live on Bleacher Report's Instagram, the Portuguese international said: "Three seasons ago we win the league, Liverpool were like 30 points behind, Kevin De Bruyne had an unbelievable season, Mo Salah scores a lot of goals.
"He's [Salah] a great player, I'm not saying otherwise. And they give the award to Salah and not De Bruyne.
"Season after, very tight, Raheem Sterling was on the run with Van Dijk, very tight - they give it to Van Dijk.
"This season again, De Bruyne another unbelievable season, we're behind, but because Liverpool are champions one of them will win the award again."
Silva then questioned why the likes of David Silva and Sergio Aguero, two of the key men in all of Man City's title triumphs, have not won the award.
"I think the individual awards are very relative, it's important, but it's not that important and people should stop thinking about it," Silva added.
It's a fair point and at the end of the short clip, the Portuguese states his admiration for Liverpool and reminds viewers that his words are not a personal attack on City's biggest rivals.
De Bruyne not winning the award does seem a bit of a travesty and despite Liverpool's dominance in 2019/20, the Belgian has arguably been the best player in the Premier League this season.
But as Silva says, the award will all but certainly go to either Jordan Henderson or Sadio Mane - both of whom are still worthy winners.
